PUTRAJAYA, Jan 18 — The Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry (Petra) will launch an additional bidding round under the Large Scale Solar – SuRİA Energy Transition Plus (LSS@PETRA+) programme to develop large-scale solar power plants with a total quota of 2,000MWac.
The additional quota will be offered by the Energy Commission (ST) starting on January 20 via a Request for Proposal process.
“Solar power plants approved under this additional bidding round are scheduled to commence operations in 2027,” it said in a statement today.
Petra added that the initiative aligns with the nation’s aspirations for energy transition and the demand for green electricity within the national power supply system.
The additional solar capacity under LSS@PETRA+ is expected to attract up to RM8 billion in investments and create 12,000 job opportunities in the renewable energy (RE) sector.
It is confident that this initiative will significantly contribute to the nation’s energy transition goals, aiming to increase the share of RE capacity in the national power supply system to 70 per cent by 2050.
The programme also underscores Petra's commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of the country’s electricity supply sector.
The additional quota will be offered in two packages: Package A for ground-mounted solar power plants with a capacity of 30MWac to 500MWac, offering a total quota of 1,500MWac, and Package B for floating and water-based solar power plants with a capacity of 10MWac to 500MWac, offering a total quota of 500MWac.
Further details about this additional quota offering can be accessed on the ST website.
