AMPANG JAYA, Jan 18 — The positive economic growth alongside aggressive investment inflows throughout last year contributed to Selangor's revenue of RM2.858 billion, said Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.
This record-breaking achievement was also supported by the opening of new industrial areas, development activities, manufacturing, data centres, and centres of excellence that are rapidly expanding.
“Selangor recorded a final revenue total of RM2.858 billion for 2024, the highest in its history. This figure surpassed the previous record of RM2.811 billion collected in 2017.

“Additionally, throughout last year, Selangor achieved an operational expenditure performance of 98.07 per cent and a development expenditure performance of 97.18 per cent,” he said at the Ampang Jaya development appreciation dinner yesterday evening.
Amirudin's speech was read out by the state executive councillor for public health and the environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin, who represented the Menteri Besar.
He noted that close cooperation between the state administration and the private sector, along with supportive policies, also contributed to this success.
“Thank you to the developers and private sector players who work hand in hand with the state government and local authorities in driving the state and local economies forward.
“Developers comply with all the policies and regulations we set in the terms for development control and planning permission applications,” Amirudin said.
Selangor collected RM2.7 billion in revenue in 2023, RM2.5 billion in 2022, and RM2.3 billion in 2021.
In July last year, the Department of Statistics Malaysia reported that Selangor once again contributed the highest share to the national gross domestic product, accounting for 25.9 per cent last year.
This marked a 0.4 per cent increase compared to 2022, with Selangor’s economic value also surpassing RM406.1 billion for the first time, making it the first state in Malaysia to exceed the RM400 billion mark.
The World Bank's Malaysia economist Apurva Sanghi said on X (formerly Twitter) that Selangor had emerged as a newly designated high-income state, according to its report.
The state achieved a Gross National Income of US$14,291 (RM67,374), surpassing the national state-level GNI per capita threshold of US$14,005 (RM66,026).
