SHAH ALAM, Jan 16 — The Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) is investigating the source of pollution in Sungai Kabul after pink-coloured water was detected flowing in the river two days ago.
Its President Nazli Taib said they are working to determine whether the contamination originated from nearby factories.
“We cannot yet confirm that the source of the pollution came from factories at this stage. We are still investigating the issue,” he said.

Nazli was speaking at a press conference after the Compliance Programme and Enforcement of Unauthorised Factories in Selangor 2025-2027 (Southern Zone) town hall at Dewan Seri Cempaka today.
He added that MPKj officers might conduct door-to-door inspections if necessary to identify the source of the pollution.
Yesterday, the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) announced that it had completed efforts to remove the pink-coloured water first detected in Sungai Kabul on Tuesday (January 14).
It said a follow-up inspection around the Mahkota Industrial Area in Beranang uncovered a suspected unauthorised bypass pipe.
Luas coordinated with MPKj to shut off the pipe immediately to minimise risks to Sungai Kabul, Sungai Beranang, and Sungai Semenyih. The source of the pipe remains under investigation.

State executive councillor for local government, tourism, and New Village development Dato’ Ng Suee Lim, who was also present at the press conference today, assured that legal action will be taken against any party found responsible for the pollution.
“We take the matter very seriously as it involves the state’s water supply, and we will proceed with legal action if any party is found responsible,” he said.
