Batu Arang plant: State seeks win-win solution

By Sofia Nasir

PETALING JAYA, Jan 16 — The state government has yet to obtain a planning permit to build an incinerator in Batu Arang, Rawang.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said planning for the project must be done meticulously to ensure a win-win situation for all parties.

“It has not even reached the planning permit stage. There have indeed been objections, but we cannot look at an incinerator as we did 40 years ago. This incinerator will ensure quality waste management.

“I am holding comprehensive discussions and we will ensure a win-win situation,” he told the media at the Seri Selangor Golf Club here yesterday.

Amirudin added that incinerators are being built in Jeram and Tanjung Dua Belas.

Last week, non-governmental organisation Rawang Against Incinerator Network in a statement said the state government has kept mum despite residents’ objections to the plant.

Last year, the Selangor administration planned an engagement session with the residents via KDEB Waste Management on their objections to the plant.

Amirudin reportedly said the engagement session was held to communicate accurate information on the waste-to-energy plant.
