Pattani security agency ordered to intensify efforts to track suspects in bomb incident

PATTANI, Jan 14 — Security agencies in the Pattani region of southern Thailand have been ordered to intensify efforts to track the suspects involved in the bomb blast incident near the Mueang Pattani police station yesterday.

The Commander of the 4th Division and Director of Internal Security for the 4th Division Lieutenant General Phaisarn Nuansang said all security agencies have also been instructed to extend help to all the victims injured in the incident.

Speaking to the press today, he said the 4th Division Internal Security Operations Centre has also sought the public's cooperation to report any suspicious individuals in the area to local security agencies.

The bomb explosion, believed to have been planted on a motorcycle near the police station on Monday, injured nine security officers, with one Malaysian national suffering minor injuries.

The Malaysian Consulate Office in Songkhla reported that the 20-year-old Malaysian man from Kuala Lumpur is now in a stable condition.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Narathiwat, a father and son, both police patrol officers, were killed in a bomb explosion on Si Sakhon Road today morning.

Si Sakhon District Police Chief Colonel Pakkawat Wansanuk stated that they received a report of the bomb explosion at 9.50am local time.

"When police officers arrived at the scene, they found the bodies of the two police officers, both with gunshot wounds to the head," he said.

Pakkawat added that initial investigations revealed that the car carrying the two police officers was attacked with a bomb before they were shot at close range. The suspects also stole two pistols from the victims.

The victims, aged 56 and 35, were on their way to the town.

He said no party or armed group has claimed responsibility for the attack. The police are working to track down the suspects.
