Immigration raids vegetable farm in Selangor, arrests 65 foreign nationals

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 10 — A five-hectare vegetable farm in Telok Panglima Garang, operated by foreign nationals from Bangladesh and Pakistan, was raided by the Immigration Department.

Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said the foreign nationals were operating the farm along Jalan Halia Muda, Kampung Johan Setia, under the guise of a Temporary Employment Visit Pass for the construction sector, which had expired on January 9, 2025.

"Based on public complaints and intelligence gathered over the past week, an operation team comprising 69 personnel from various ranks was deployed to the area to inspect 70 individuals, including foreign nationals and a local citizen," he said in a statement today.

Following the inspections in the area, the department detained 65 foreign nationals, including 42 Bangladeshi men, 13 Myanmar men, one Myanmar woman, four Indonesian men, two Indonesian women, two Pakistani men, and one Indian man.

All of them were arrested under Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155), Section 15 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155), and Regulation 39 (b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.

Zakaria said the individuals detained aged between 18 and 60, had been placed at the Bukit Jalil Immigration Detention Depot for investigation and further action.

The operation began at 11.30am, involving the Special Action Branch, Enforcement Division, along with the Immigration Headquarters' Intelligence and Special Operations Division's Special Tactical Group.
