Administrative plan for Klang Valley’s new metropolis ready by year end

KUALA LANGAT, Jan 7 — A comprehensive development plan is in the works for the Selangor Greater Klang Valley (SGKV) proposal and will be ready by the end of the year, simultaneously bringing into existence the country’s first metropolis.

Dato’ Puasa Md Taib, head of the SGKV secretariat office, said the plan will become the new administrative model for the metropolis —  which will be a conurbation of Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang — right up to 2035.

“The development plan is likely to be ready by October, or latest, the end of this year. We want to show to the people that the SGKV project is capable of transforming Shah Alam, Klang, Petaling Jaya and Subang Jaya into a model of good urban planning.

“This effort will without a doubt spur the state’s economy and lead to an increase in our gross domestic product,” he said.

Puasa, who was speaking to reporters at an engagement workshop for the coordination and standardisation of best practices for local authorities (PBT), said although the objective is to use the plan until 2035, changes can be made to it as and when fit.

During the workshop, the director of Klang Royal City Council’s (MBDK) planning unit, Yusrina Mohamad Yusof, said her council is ever ready to share Klang’s development plans through its fast-track approval system.

“This system has been in place since 2022 and is constantly being updated. Since its implementation, we have given approval to develop another 600 factories without permission, adding on to the existing 1,300.

“MBDK is keen to share this fast-track system with other councils if it helps to speed up the approval process for the development projects under their jurisdiction,” she said.

Previously, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari had expressed hope that the creation of a metropolis out of the four cities in Greater Klang Valley can put it on par with Asia’s biggest cities in terms of its physical and digital infrastructure.

Amirudin added that as a model metropolis, SGKV will strengthen the state’s economy and provide better connectivity.
