KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 2 — The government and people of Malaysia have expressed their heartfelt condolences and sympathy on the passing of former United States (US) president James E. Carter Jr. on December 29.
The Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) said that Carter, who served as the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981, was a distinguished statesman whose significant contributions to humanitarian efforts left an indelible mark on the world.
“Malaysia also hopes that the late president’s family will find strength and solace during this difficult time,” it said in a Facebook post today.
Wisma Putra also shared pictures of Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan signing the condolence book at the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
Carter, the winner of the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize, passed away at his home in Plains, Georgia, at the age of 100.
