SHAH ALAM, Jan 2 — Two out of 73,899 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates in Selangor this year are sitting for their exams in prison, said Selangor Education Department director Jafri Abu.
25 candidates are also taking their written exams, which commenced today and will run until February 6, in hospitals.
“We have candidates taking their exams in hospitals and prisons. As of this morning, 25 candidates are in hospitals across the state, while two are sitting for their exams in prison.
“In all circumstances, we ensure the best arrangements are made to give them the space and opportunity to take their exams,” he told the press after visiting SMK Seksyen 9 today, to observe the first day of SPM 2024 written examination.
In Selangor, 73,899 candidates are sitting for the SPM at 494 examination centres, with 7,651 examination officers on duty to oversee the process.
At the same time, Jafri confirmed that all examination centres in Selangor are currently flood-free, but the department remains on standby for any potential disruptions.
“So far, conditions in Selangor are good with no schools or exam centres affected by floods or located in flood-prone areas,” he said.
Nationwide, over 400,000 registered SPM candidates began their written examinations today at 3,000 centres across the country.
