Flood-affected Selangor students in Kelantan to get RM500 aid — MB

KOTA BHARU, Jan 2 — The Selangor government has announced a special disaster aid of RM500 for students from the state who were affected by the recent floods in Kelantan.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the assistance will be distributed starting next month.

“A total of 50 to 60 students… will receive a RM500 contribution from the state government. This is to ease their burden and help repair vehicles and replace household items damaged by the floods.

“We expect this assistance to be distributed to all victims by February,” he said during an engagement session with Universiti Malaysia Kelantan students at Kopitiam Kita today.

Earlier, Amirudin, who was accompanied by state executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi, spent two hours having breakfast with 30 Selangor students.

In November last year, Kelantan was among eight states across the country affected by the year-end flood. The others were Terengganu, Kedah, Perlis, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Melaka, and Johor.

On the engagement session, the Menteri Besar said Selangor intends to implement an industrial training programme involving various state organisations, including parent companies and subsidiaries.

“We have three parent companies, 36 subsidiaries, and 10 state executive councillor offices, along with the Speaker and Deputy Speaker. There are plenty of opportunities for industrial training that can provide valuable experience for both local and international students.

“At the moment, we are in the process of organising this programme and expect to implement it next year. Hopefully, its implementation will create career opportunities for them in the future,” he said.

Meanwhile, representing the students, Nik Muhammad Afif Fakhri Mohd Shardi described the meeting with the Menteri Besar today as highly meaningful and said he took the opportunity to share issues concerning the students.

“Usually, we just sit in the audience and listen to speeches by leaders on stage, but this was different as everyone had the chance to meet and spend time together,” he said, expressing gratitude for the aid provided.
