SHAH ALAM, Jan 1 — The Kajang state constituency will continue its 'Kajang Bersih, Kajang di Hatiku' campaign to raise environmental awareness among the community.

Its state assemblyman David Cheong said the campaign, launched last year, has toured schools in the constituency to instil cleanliness habits among students.

For this year, the campaign will include efforts to beautify rivers in Kajang via tree-planting projects along riverbanks.

“We will continue this campaign. This year, we hope to start the river beautification project. In addition to strengthening the riverbanks, it is also part of our efforts to prevent illegal dumping along the riverbanks.

“We are planning to collaborate with non-governmental organisations. I have already met with several relevant agencies and departments, and we hope they can provide us with tree saplings.

“Previously, we discovered instances of illegal dumping along riverbanks. By planting trees, it can block access for lorries and prevent waste from being dumped in the area,” he said when contacted today.

Cheong added that other priorities include addressing flash floods in Kajang and improving road infrastructure, which is often damaged and riddled with potholes due to overloaded lorries.

'Kajang Bersih, Kajang di Hatiku' was launched last year to cultivate environmental awareness among local residents and the community at large.

He noted that the campaign is not only about cleaning urban, village, or residential areas but also encourages recycling initiatives which can generate income.
