PETALING JAYA, Jan 1 — Close to 1,000 students from low-income (B40) families around the Taman Medan state constituency area will receive assistance for the upcoming school session next month.

Its coordinator Halimey Abu Bakar said the phased assistance will help alleviate the burden on families in preparing school necessities like uniforms and stationery.

“For the first session, we are providing assistance to 200 students through the coordinators. Today, we are handing over the Selangor Children’s Heritage Fund’s (Tawas) assistance to nearly 300 Standard One students, with around 200 more expected to receive it soon.

“In February, 300 students are expected to receive school vouchers from Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI. All these aids will ease the burden on families, especially as we are also approaching the month of Ramadan,” he said.

Earlier, Halimi handed over the Tawas school aid to the recipients during a ceremony in Taman Medan today.

Meanwhile, factory worker Faezlean Sani, 43, said the assistance helps ease the burden of providing school supplies for his four children, as he is the sole breadwinner in the family.

“This helps reduce my expenses. My three other children also need school supplies. Moreover, the school session coincides with fasting and Hari Raya Aidilfitri,” he said.
