KUALA SELANGOR, Dec 31 — Stabilisation works and shift pilling to the collapsed water retention bund at Hillpark, Saujana Utama, which flooded Taman Seri Alam nearby, will be completed in a month.
State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato’ Izham Hashim said works will be done by the developer as a short-term measure, in addition to deepening the catchment pool to no more than 2m to prevent a recurrence.
“Costs for the stabilisation works will be borne by the developer as the effort has not been completed nor has it been handed over to the Selangor Irrigation and Drainage Department.
“A long-term measure is to upgrade drains to accommodate heavy rain. The state government will study this plan,” he told reporters after visiting the catchment pool here today.

Izham added that weaknesses in the design of the pool’s rubber wall were among the early factors for the collapse, which led to the flooding of 200 homes in Taman Seri Alam.
“This pool was built in 2015 at a height of only 0.2m. The collapse was because the water level rose to 0.3m.
“It was built for use at Hillpark, but it affected Taman Seri Alam as it is a low-lying area,” he explained.
On Sunday, Taman Seri Alam was flooded after a water retention bund collapsed.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (Operations) assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said his office received a call about the incident at 5.15pm.
He said the collapsed bund caused water to inundate the residential area, leaving a 0.3m flood.
Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) Foundation chief Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said his office channelled RM30,000 to help the 400 flood victims there.
