SHAH ALAM, Dec 28 — Selangor has allocated RM3 million to upgrade 20 more parish mosques (masjid kariah) into administrative mosques (masjid pengurusan) next year, said the state executive councillor for Islamic affairs and innovation Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah.

He said for this year, 20 local mosques were successfully upgraded to ensure more efficient, integrated, and harmonious governance, allowing them to be better utilised by the community.

The initiative has received positive feedback from congregants, who feel that under the new management of the Selangor Islamic Religious Department, mosques in their areas are now more vibrant, peaceful, and free from extreme religious and political influences.

“As a result, more local congregants feel comfortable visiting mosques during every prayer time.

“Throughout my tenure this year, mosque management has been my top priority because mosques must serve as centres for uniting the Ummah, free from corruption, hatred, division, and partisan politics,” he said in a Facebook post.

When tabling the 2025 Selangor Budget on November 15, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said that administrative mosques represent an administrative and management approach established under Subsection 104(3) of the Selangor Islamic Administration Enactment 2003.

Under this method, a mosque is managed by a manager, an assistant manager, and two assistant managers.

In 2019, the state government agreed to upgrade 10 parish mosques to administrative mosques to enhance the efficiency of mosque administration and financial management, ensuring more systematic utilisation.

As a result of this initiative, as of October this year, there are 65 administrative mosques in Selangor.
