NARATHIWAT, Dec 24 — Three rangers were injured in a gunfight with an armed group and a homemade bomb attack in Si Sakhon District, Narathiwat, early this morning.
Si Sakhon district police chief Col. Pol. Pakkawat Wansanuk said they received a report about a shooting incident involving approximately 10 armed suspects and rangers at 9.30am local time.
“Police officers who arrived at the scene found three injured rangers and several M16 bullet casings at the location,” he told the press today.
Pakkawat added that the police investigation uncovered a hole about two metres deep, believed to have been used by the armed group to plant a 25-kg homemade bomb.
The bomb was likely installed in a gas cylinder and activated using a remote control.
He said that at the time of the incident, six rangers were conducting an investigation following a complaint about a bomb explosion in the area.
“The three injured rangers are currently being treated at Narathiwat Rachanakharin Hospital, and their condition is reported to be stable,” Pakkawat said.
The police are actively pursuing individuals or groups involved in the attack.
