Asean chairmanship 2025: MAHB enhances operational system, airport security

PUTRAJAYA, Dec 24 — Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) will enhance infrastructure, operational management systems, and security measures at airports, in preparation for the country's Asean chairmanship in 2025.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said MAHB managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani conveyed this during a courtesy call at his office today, to discuss Malaysia's preparations as host for the Asean chairmanship next year.

“Mohd Izani shared his insights on MAHB's crucial role, in ensuring that the country’s main airports are ready to welcome international delegations, including leaders and senior officials, from Asean countries.

“He also highlighted the ongoing efforts to upgrade infrastructure, operational systems, and security protocols at airports, to provide the best possible experience for guests,” he said on his social media accounts.

Shamsul added that he and Izani also discussed the importance of close cooperation between MAHB, the government, and other agencies, to ensure smooth travel for delegations and the delivery of world-class services.

“In our discussion, Mohd Izani also emphasised MAHB’s commitment to promoting Malaysian hospitality, an essential factor in shaping the country’s global image.

“I am confident that with thorough preparation and strong cooperation from all parties involved, Malaysia will excel as a host, leaving a lasting positive impact throughout the Asean chairmanship 2025,” he said.

Shamsul's meeting with Mohd Izani reflected a shared commitment to ensuring the success of this significant event.

Previously, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said that MAHB had been tasked with implementing several enhancements at all entry points in the country, in preparation for the Asean chairmanship next year.

He said the upgrading and improvement work at the nation’s entry points, particularly at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, must be completed by December 31.

Malaysia will officially take over the Asean chairmanship on January 1, under the theme ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability,’ which reflects its aspiration to foster a unified and prosperous Asean.
