SUBANG JAYA, Dec 21 — The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has allocated RM15 million to distribute garbage bins to 60,000 residential units from next year, said Mayor Dato’ Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim.

He said the distribution of the free 120-litre trash bins will be done in phases until 2026.

“All parties have been informed of the new assessment rate, which starts next year, and MBSJ has gazetted several programmes including giving free garbage bins to registered residences.

“We have allocated RM15 million, with RM8 million to be spent next year and the rest in 2026. This is among our initiatives to make the garbage bins uniform at every home.

“This initiative will kick off at registered residences, and may be widened to shops, as the new assessment rate does not give MSBJ quite that much income,” he said when met at the MBSJ monthly meeting yesterday.

He added that in addition to the free garbage cans, MBSJ also emphasises cleanliness throughout its jurisdiction to avoid flash floods.

“Urban areas suffer flash floods due to drains clogged with leaves that block water flow.

“However, MBSJ will always ensure its assets are well cared for and clean. Cleanups will be done regularly so drains are well maintained,” he said.

In a separate development, Amirul Azizan said MBSJ will add another animal pound next year.

“For now, we have one centre at the Puchong Utama Industrial Park, and there will be another at a location yet to be announced.

“The new pound will be more conducive, comfortable, and coordinated with developments under the Selangor Greater Klang Valley scheme formulated by the state government under the First Selangor Plan,” he said.

At the event yesterday, Amirul Azizan announced special stickers for the plastic bag fee collection programme, which will take effect next year.

He said the stickers are aimed at preventing fraud related to illegal plastic bag charges at unregistered premises.

“MBSJ has collected over RM1 million in plastic bag fees as of November, which has gone to several green initiatives and nature conservation campaigns.

“However, there is still fraud occurring at premises that illegally collect plastic bag fees and that are not registered with MBSJ.

He said the stickers will be distributed next week for free at all registered premises.

Meanwhile, the mayor said dengue cases in the district declined by 1.3 per cent, or 99 cases, from December 8 to 14.

“Last year, 7,951 dengue cases were logged, with a decrease to 7,492 cases this year. Dengue prevention controls have been implemented to curb its spread, including with ‘fogging’.

“Awareness programmes on dengue are also being held at potential hotspots. Residents are urged to implement preventive methods such as 10-minute campaigns and community cleanups to destroy aedes breeding grounds,” he said.
