Malaysian products making waves globally thanks to local pride campaign: Fuziah

SUBANG JAYA, Dec 20 — Malaysian-made products are gaining traction in international markets, driven by extensive global marketing efforts and the success of the Buy Malaysian Products campaign, said Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Fuziah Salleh.

She emphasised the government's vision to see more Malaysian brands flourish abroad, adding that this not only generates significant profits for entrepreneurs but also bolsters the national economy.

“Thanks to the achievements of the Buy Malaysian Products Campaign (KBBM) under the Local Product Empowerment Initiative by the ministry’s strategic partners, sales in 2023 reached an impressive RM5.51 billion,” Fuziah said at the launch of the Buy Malaysian Products Campaign — Proudly Local 2024 organised by Mydin Mohamed Holdings Berhad (Mydin) here yesterday.

“This reflects a remarkable 103.2 per cent growth compared to 2022. We are confident this upward trend will continue in 2024,” she added.

The campaign, held in collaboration with Mydin, highlights the importance of supporting local products and provides a platform for 12 selected entrepreneurs to showcase their offerings in categories such as food and accessories. The programme runs from December 19 to 21.

Fuziah praised the partnership between the ministry and Mydin, adding that holding such campaigns in strategic retail locations not only boosts local product visibility but also instils pride in Malaysian-made goods among the public.
