RAWANG, Dec 19 — Financial assistance from Selangor’s medical programmes has been instrumental in saving the life of Mohamad Danish Sulaiman, an eight-year-old boy born with a congenital heart defect.
Danish, who hails from Country Homes, Rawang, was diagnosed with a rare condition that left his heart with only three valves instead of the usual four.
According to his mother Maya Sari Dewi, 48, he has undergone three heart surgeries since birth, two of which were funded by the Selangor Heart Treatment Scheme, amounting to RM70,000.
Danish’s first surgery at the National Heart Institute (IJN) when he was three months old cost RM70,000, with the fee covered by IJN.
In 2018, he underwent a second surgery which cost RM20,000, followed by a third surgery in June this year costing RM50,000.
The latter two were fully funded by the state government through the heart treatment scheme, managed by Selcare Management Sdn Bhd.
When met at their residence, Maya said that Danish was experiencing severe breathing difficulties before his surgeries.
However, his condition has improved significantly since, allowing him to become more active with fewer respiratory issues.
Rawang state assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat said the Selangor government initially approved RM45,000 for Danish’s treatment, but increased it to RM50,000 to cover additional costs.
“The financial assistance ensured Danish could receive the life-saving treatment he needed.
“We encourage the public to utilise state initiatives like the Iltizam Selangor Penyayang and Bantuan Sihat Selangor,” he told Media Selangor.
Chua expressed his delight at Danish’s recovery and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to supporting residents in need of critical medical aid.
