SHAH ALAM, Dec 19 — The Selangor Ihsan Madani Squad collected 31.07 tonnes of waste on the second day of its post-flood relief operations in Tumpat, Kelantan.
This brings the total amount of waste gathered so far to 121.82 tonnes.
In a mission report, the State Disaster Management Unit said the day-two cleaning operation began at 8am and involved 11 Roll-On Roll-Off trucks from various agencies.
The clean efforts were focused at Taman Sri Bayu and Taman Sri Dalam Rhu, Tumpat, as assigned by the Tumpat District Council.
The cleanup works, which ended at 1pm, involved 130 volunteers from various state agencies.
18 trips were made on the second day to remove flood debris from the affected areas.
“The operation concluded at 1pm, with all personnel from the Selangor Civil Defence Force, local authorities. KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd, Team Serve, and Team Selangor standing down,” it said.
On the first day of its operations, the volunteers cleared some 97 tonnes of waste.
On Monday (December 16), Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari pledged RM500,000 to Kelantan to support recovery efforts following last month’s devastating floods that wreaked havoc across multiple states in the country.
He said the proposed funds will help alleviate Kelantan’s burden in repairing damaged infrastructure and facilities.
