SEPANG, Dec 18 — The Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) will mandate no plastic straws and implement improvements to its plastic-free programme at all Ramadan bazaars under its supervision next year.
MPSepang deputy president Muhamad Shah Osmin said visitors are encouraged to bring their own food containers to Ramadan bazaars to support the Plastic-Free Campaign.
“The implementation of this programme will indirectly provide awareness and exposure to the local community on how important it is for us to care for the environment by supporting such campaigns,” he said in his message in conjunction with the MPSepang full council meeting here today.
He said 12 Ramadan bazaars will be opened next year, involving 886 lots, at Kip Mall in Cyberjaya, Taman Mas, Desa Pinggiran Putra, Kosmopleks, Taman Putra Perdana, Sungai Merab, Dengkil Jaya, Dengkil, Sungai Pelek, Sepang International Circuit (SIC), and Sepang Putra.
Shah said the Sepang Putra Ramadan bazaar is being reopened due to higher demand.
The SIC Ramadan bazaar, meanwhile, is the latest to be introduced by MPSepang in collaboration with the SIC management.
“With these Ramadan bazaars, the local community can save time buying their ‘buka puasa’ delicacies and support the growth of small traders in Sepang,” he said, adding that it will be mandatory for every trader to accept cashless payments.
He said the online application for the Ramadan bazaars, open since December 9, will close on January 6, 2025.
Meanwhile, Shah said that in conjunction with the Visit Selangor Year 2025, MPSepang will improve and upgrade infrastructure to draw more visitors.
