SHAH ALAM, Dec 17 — The state government, in collaboration with the Selangor Red Giants (SRG) team and Todak Academy, is holding e-sports competitions to uncover and develop new talent.
State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said the initiative aims to build a pool of future e-sports talent while strengthening the state’s sporting ecosystem.
“Recently, an e-sports programme was organised in collaboration with SRG and Todak Academy, involving 32 secondary schools in Petaling.
“At the end of this month, we will host another competition known as the Selangor Future Cup, which will see participation from 128 schools across the state,” he said during the SKOP programme produced by SelangorTV.

Najwan said teachers and parents are increasingly supportive of e-sports, recognising its potential as a professional industry that can offer meaningful careers.
“This dispels the perception that e-sports are merely a distraction with no added value for their children.
“With Malaysian youth achieving success on the international stage, many now see e-sports as a viable and respected profession,” he said.
During the 2025 Selangor State Budget tabling last month, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced plans to refurbish the Carlton Hotel in Section 13, Shah Alam, into a dedicated e-sports hub.
With an allocation of RM1 million, Amirudin said the initiative would enable Selangor to host e-sports tournaments at both Asean and international levels, further positioning the state as a hub for digital sports.
