PETALING JAYA, Dec 15 — Selangor has recorded the highest participation in the Microsoft Communications and Multimedia Commission’s (MCMC) AI Teach programme since its launch in June this year, with over 600 participants from diverse backgrounds.

State executive councillor for Islamic affairs and cultural innovation Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said the two-day state-level programme aimed to equip participants with knowledge in artificial intelligence (AI), including an introduction to AI and its practical applications in solving real-world problems.

"This morning, we registered 630 participants, most of whom are physically present on the Sunway University campus, our collaboration partner for this programme, while others are joining virtually. This initiative targets reaching 1,600 participants, across Malaysia, within a year," he said at a press conference after launching the programme yesterday.

Fahmi extended his congratulations to the organiser, Sunway University, and the participants, for their enthusiasm and commitment to exploring AI - a technology the nation urgently needs. The event was organised in partnership with the Social Security Organisation and the Biji-biji Initiative.

Since its official launch on June 20, the programme has trained 864 participants, from Kuala Lumpur, Perak, Penang, and Melaka. It aims to provide comprehensive AI education, covering basic concepts, ethical usage, and guidance on building resumes and portfolios to enhance job opportunities.

Regarding the programme's expansion at the state government level, he said that next year, the state government plans to implement the initiative at approximately 67 National Information Dissemination Centres (NADIs) across Selangor.

Meanwhile, the MCMC’s Central Regional Office senior director Mohd Faisal Md Nor said the MCMC Microsoft AI Teach programme is also being conducted simultaneously at four NADIs: NADI Taman Pinggiran Delima in Hulu Langat, NADI Taman Bunga Raya in Rawang, NADI Kampung Labohan Dagang in Banting, and NADI Taman Kelisa in Hulu Selangor.

He added that AI learning is part of the five pillars of the NADI Smart Services programme, which was launched in September. These pillars are: entrepreneurship, lifelong learning, personal well-being, awareness, and government initiatives.

Currently, 67 NADIs are operational in Selangor, including 19 of the 35 new NADIs constructed this year. The remaining 16 NADIs are under development, and are expected to be completed by the first quarter of next year.

Meanwhile, Sunway University expressed its commitment to fostering sustainability and community responsibility through its Campus with a Conscience (CWAC) initiative, which began in 2021.

CWAC focuses on the concepts of sustainable development and planetary health integrated into the curriculum, and through activities and actions across campus, to build a community which is responsible for the planet and its people. It can be seen through the actions and activities across campus.

"CWAC ideology is taken very seriously by the Sunway community, to demonstrate how baby steps towards sustainable living can indeed make a difference.

"It encourages small steps which can have a big impact, including through education to the wider community, as well as sharing best practices through webinars and e-bulletin platforms. All CWAC events are open to staff, students, alumni, and the community," the university said in a statement.
