Selangor govt condemns private hospital for holding infant corpse ‘hostage’

SHAH ALAM, Dec 11 — The Selangor government today condemned a private hospital for holding back the body of an infant boy for two weeks as his parents could not pay the hospital bill.

State executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari said she will contact relevant parties for more information on the case.

“I will obtain further information from the Royal Malaysia Police and the Social Welfare Department first.

She said once she gets details on the case, she will visit the infant’s family to hand over aid.

“We (the state government) condemn the inhumane act and will concur with legal action if there is a conviction,” she said when contacted today.

Yesterday, the media reported about the management of the infant’s body, which elicited various reactions from the public.

The story was first shared on the Facebook account Mr Wan Cai Official, who said his employees had to bathe the infant, nicknamed Adham, in hot water mixed with tap water as he was kept in the mortuary freezer of a private hospital for two weeks.

According to the post, the baby that was born on November 24 without one eye, a nose, or an anus, died a few minutes later.
