GOMBAK, Dec 7 — RM6 million has been allocated to implement an environmental collection programme across 12 local authorities in Selangor.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said each local authority will provide 100 recycling waste separation points, amounting to a total of 1,200 locations.
“Each site will be equipped with rubbish bins and a collection system. The funding for this programme comes from the RM20 million collected through plastic bag charges.
“This is part of our efforts to educate the public on waste separation. Selangor will collaborate with Nestlé to implement this programme, as the company has consistently engaged in recycling activities,” he said.
Amirudin was speaking to the press after officiating the 2024 Environmental Carnival organised by the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) at the Batu Caves Public Park today.
Meanwhile, MPS President Shahman Jalaludin said the carnival aims to raise public awareness about the importance of recycling practices and to instil the 3R culture (reduce, reuse, recycle).
“This carnival serves as a platform for MPS to interact directly with the community to provide the best municipal services.
“In addition, MPS has set up a ‘Catch and Pay’ counter for the Rat Control Programme. Other activities include a children’s colouring contest, lucky draws, free health screenings, and food truck sales,” he said.
