GOMBAK, Dec 7 — Over 5,000 people attended the Madani Cheapest Sale at the Gombak Parliamentary constituency, held at the Taman Pinggiran Batu Caves’ pasar malam site today.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the programme, which started at 8am, also featured Jualan Ehsan Rahmah (JER), an initiative introduced by the state government in 2022.
“The Madani Cheapest Sale is a new initiative under the Federal government, while JER is Selangor state government’s effort to help the people access essential goods at extremely low prices since 2022.
“This is a combination of attractive sales that I believe exemplifies how a stable Unity Government can be established. It allows for consistent policies to be implemented and their effectiveness to reach the people,” he said during the dual launch of JER and the Madani Cheapest Sale for the Central Zone in the Gombak Parliamentary constituency.
It is understood that simultaneous launches also took place in the Northern Zone at Permatang Pauh in Penang, officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and in the Sungai Petani Parliamentary constituency in Kedah, while the Southern Zone launch was held in the Port Dickson Parliamentary constituency in Negeri Sembilan.

Among the goods sold at today’s event included fish, crabs, and squid, amounting to five tonnes, as well as 1,000 chickens, 900 trays of eggs, and 900 packets of five-kilogramme rice.
Meanwhile, shopper Junaidah Ismail, 40, welcomed the government’s low-cost sales initiative, saying it significantly reduced her grocery expenses.
“The prices are very different compared to the open market. Today, I bought two trays of eggs, chicken, rice, and several other items for less than RM200. It is such a great saving,” she said.
Another shopper, R. Puspadewi, 45, said she hopes the sales initiative will continue and be held more frequently, given the high cost of living and the widespread need for affordable goods.
“Honestly, opportunities like these low-cost sales provide us with much-needed relief, especially for low-income groups like us. I am very satisfied with the purchases I made today, including fresh produce,” she said.
