LZS launches Sama-Sama Kongsi campaign, encourages tithe payment before year ends

SHAH ALAM, Dec 4 — The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) has launched the Sama-Sama Kongsi campaign, starting today until December 31, to encourage Muslims, especially in Selangor, to fulfil their tithe obligations before the end of the year.

LZS chief operating officer Ahmad Fadhil Hassan said besides raising awareness about the importance of paying tithe, the campaign also aims to invite eligible individuals to join LZS in helping those in need from the asnaf community.

“Through this campaign, we have a mission to collect RM400 million to reach our tithe distribution target of RM1.2 billion this year.

“To date, we have distributed RM1 billion in tithe, and LZS is confident that through this campaign, we can achieve the RM400 million collection target, especially considering the high percentage of tithe contributions recorded every year in December,” he told reporters after the launch of the campaign at the LZS headquarters today.

Fadhil added that a large portion of the community prefers December as the time to pay their tithe, partly because tithe payers can benefit from tax rebates.

With this in mind, he invited the public to join the campaign initiatives encouraging tithe payers, offering a variety of exciting prizes worth over RM60,000 as part of the campaign.

He said that among the initiatives offered were the “Start With Sepuluh” campaign, aimed at young tithe payers in higher education institutions; the “Jom Auto Zakat Bulanan” campaign, open to individuals, traders, and companies who register for monthly tithe payments via direct debit or salary deductions; and the “Early Bird” campaign at 18 LZS branches, specifically for the first 10 tithe payers who visit any of the 18 LZS branches each day.

Further information about the “Sama-Sama Kongsi” campaign can be found on the LZS website or on its social media pages.

Meanwhile, Fadhil said that as of November, RM844 million in tithe had been collected from 322,000 tithe payers in Selangor, including individuals and corporate taxpayers.

From this collection, LZS has distributed tithe to support over 72,000 asnaf families, including the poor, needy, and new reverts in Selangor, he said.

At the same event, Infinity Gigabyte Sdn Bhd and NZ Venture Logistic (M) Sdn Bhd also donated business tithe, amounting to RM5,000 and RM2,500, respectively.

LZS also distributed tithe assistance totalling RM5.82 million, covering seven recipient categories: monthly financial assistance (hardcore poor), rent assistance (poor), medical assistance, equipment and repair of surau, higher education scholarship aid, ithbat assistance, and the Selangor zakat adopted school programme.
