MBI holds integrity awareness symposium for subsidiaries

SHAH ALAM, Dec 4 — Every department, public or private, must be competent when performing their duties and positively affect governance.

Saipolyazan M. Yusop, chief executive officer of Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, said organisations must also undertake measures to prevent threats that could lead to losses.

“We don’t want there to be departments that don’t perform their responsibilities until they affect the function (of the departments), compromise other components, and paralyse the organisations,” he said.

He was speaking during the MBI Group Corporate Governance Symposium at Courtyard by Marriott Setia Alam here today, with MBI subsidiaries including Media Selangor Sdn Bhd, SSDU Innovations Sdn Bhd, Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor, and Kumpulan Hartanah Selangor Bhd.

Saipolyazan said that during the event, the subsidiaries’ staffers were made aware of the importance of governance in administration, with speeches delivered by experienced individuals including Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

“We want to show the importance of governance and action against those who abuse their power and positions. We want to emphasise how important integrity is as breaches of trust bring about significant impacts,” he said.

Involving about 250 participants from MBI subsidiaries, the symposium comprised several sharing sessions.

Besides Ayob, the event centred representatives from agencies including the Companies Commission of Malaysia, the Malaysia Competition Commission, and The Malaysian Internal Auditors’ Institute.
