JAKARTA, Dec 1 — Indonesia plans to form a state revenue ministry to improve revenue collection, said President Prabowo Subianto's brother and close advisor Hashim Djojohadikusumo today, according to a report by news portal Detik.com.
The new ministry will manage state revenues, including taxes, excises and mining royalties, he said in a meeting of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Hashim did not say when the new ministry would be created.
Prabowo would appoint deputy finance minister Anggito Abimanyu to lead the new ministry.
Among his campaign pledges, the President planned to boost tax revenue to 18 per cent of gross domestic product from around 10 per cent currently, or about US$100 billion (RM444.4 billion) in additional tax revenue, which included a plan to set up a state revenue agency.
Indonesia's finance ministry declined to comment on the matter.
Hashim’s team and presidential spokesman did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
