PETALING JAYA, Nov 28 — Every local authority in the state is encouraged to develop an entrepreneurial action plan to strengthen the ecosystem for micro traders and boost the local economy.

State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said doing so is also expected to enhance Selangor's revenue performance, with the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) being one of the first local authorities to implement it.

“Through the Petaling Jaya Entrepreneur Strategic Plan 2021-2030, MBPJ has outlined a plan to strengthen the economy of traders within its jurisdiction over nine years.

“Other local authorities, especially those with city status, are encouraged to have their own plans, as we can no longer manage entrepreneurs conventionally due to digitalisation, which has created intense competition,” he said.

Najwan was speaking to the press after officiating the 2024 Petaling Jaya Potential Entrepreneur Awards Ceremony at the MBPJ Banquet Hall today.

Separately, he said the state government is drafting a creative economy action plan to drive revenue growth through the creative sector, which will be enforced next year.

“The administration recognises the potential of the creative economy to generate revenue, as industry players including songwriters, lyricists, and filmmakers are key drivers of economic growth through events like concerts,” Najwan said.
