SHAH ALAM, Nov 21 — While the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) primarily serves as a platform to showcase large-scale industry players, the state government also provides ample opportunities for young local entrepreneurs to promote their products in international markets.
State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said one such example is the China-Asean Expo (Caexpo) held in Nanning, China in September, where the state facilitated the participation of 20 Selangor-based entrepreneurs.
“They were chosen based on their accomplishments in Selangor, and we supported them by providing booth spaces to showcase their products.
“We encouraged them to explore potential markets within Asean and China, which has shown promising results,” he said during the State Legislative Assembly sitting, here, today.
Najwan was responding to a supplementary question by Hulu Bernam assemblyman Mu’izzuddeen Mahyuddin, who inquired about opportunities for young entrepreneurs to expand internationally.
According to Najwan, the state is currently focusing on infrastructure development in rural areas, including the Integrated Development Region in South Selangor (Idriss), the Sabak Bernam Development Area (Sabda), and the Selangor Aerospace Park (SAP), to ensure better job prospects for the youth.
To ensure the security of youth involved in the gig economy, Najwan said the state government has engaged with the Selangor Technical Development Centre (STDC) to support and empower them.
This includes encouraging them to explore opportunities in technical and vocational education and training (TVET).
He said this is as the sector is highly in demand within the job market and offers a more sustainable path for generating income.
