SHAH ALAM, Nov 20 — The Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) has signed a deal with world-renowned meat supplier Allanasons Pte Ltd to strengthen the state’s food security.

State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Izham Hashim said the memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed by the two firms for the supply of one metric kilotonne of meat, to be stored at the Selangor Food Warehouse, that can feed Selangor’s population for a month.

“This is a deal for the supply of frozen meat to fulfil the needs of the Selangor Food Warehouse, involving one million kilogrammes (of buffalo meat) that has been prepared and can meet Selangor residents’ needs for a month.

“(We will do this) for a month first, and increase the supply in stages, eventually raising it to a three-month supply, or three million kilogrammes of meat,” he said when met after the deal signing ceremony here today.

Izham said the initiative will not only safeguard the state’s food supply during emergencies, but stabilise market prices and lower dependence on external food sources.

“This strategic step emphasises the state’s commitment towards the well-being of the people and resilience of the food supply chain,” he added.

Meanwhile, PKPS group chief executive officer Datuk Mohamad Khairil Razi said his agency is committed to strengthening its global network to drive a sustainable, competitive food supply system.

“This deal marks a collaborative commitment not only to strengthen Selangor’s food supply, but create a strong, competitive logistics and storage chain,” he said.

Allanasons chief executive officer Manish Muley said his firm has a long history of supplying meat to Malaysia, and called its collaboration with Selangor the best initiative to fortify the state’s food supply chain.

“It is hoped this collaboration can continue to be strengthened to bring long-term benefits to both parties,” he said.

Earlier, Izham witnessed the signing of the MOU between Khairil, representing PKPS, and Manish, representing Allanasons.

Meanwhile, according to a Bernama report, Izham said the Selangor Food Warehouse will be built by 2027 on a 4ha plot in Kuala Selangor.

The report quoted him as saying the plot is being rezoned by local authorities ahead of the issuance for a request for proposal.

“The Selangor Food Warehouse was first announced by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, in the 2024 state budget, and we have begun implementing it in phases.

“While the permanent warehouse facility is under construction, we have already started the first phase by leasing temporary storage — rice in Sekinchan, beef and buffalo meat in Port Klang, and chicken and fish at the Puchong wholesale market,” he told the national news agency.

In the same report, Izham said meat supplied by Allanasons through the deal will be distributed through initiatives such as Rahmah Sales or at Ehsan Mart outlets.
