State govt mulls raising community service centre staff salaries — MB

SHAH ALAM, Nov 20 — Selangor is considering adjusting the salaries of staff at community service centres (PKM), in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement of raising the minimum wage to RM1,700 per month.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government will reassess the monthly allocations for all PKMs, including those in state constituencies held by the opposition, in light of rising rental costs.

“Currently, the state government is deliberating on several proposals, including increasing salary adjustments for staff, such as for PKM officers across Selangor, in line with the latest Federal government announcement.

“I would also like to state that we are considering reviewing the monthly allocation for PKMs, including for the opposition because rental costs have risen. For example, in Tanjung Karang, the cost might be below RM2,000, but it is significantly higher in Petaling.

“For the PKM locations, they should ideally be within their respective constituencies, but we will not make it mandatory as this could lead to increased costs,” he said.

Amirudin was speaking in the State Legislative Assembly session today, responding to Sungai Pelek state assemblyman Lwi Kian Keong's query.

Meanwhile, the Menteri Besar also addressed the issue of increasing staff at PKMs, which are burdened with various monthly and weekly programmes, adding that the matter is expected to be resolved by June next year.

“For now, we are maintaining the quota of four officers but will consider adding staff after reviewing the workload of PKMs, which includes existing and new programmes such as bereavement aid.

“This includes preparing for 2026 when we will begin payouts to 29,000 participants of the Selangor Children’s Heritage Fund (Tawas) from the first batch. We finalised this in 2008, and payments will commence when participants turn 18 in 2026.

“If necessary, I am requesting until June next year to add staff based on the programme requirements for 2026 and related tasks, including bereavement aid,” he said.
