SELAYANG, Nov 16 — Tourist spending in Selangor is projected to reach RM11.7 billion in conjunction with the Visit Selangor Year 2025, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the estimate is based on the target of eight million domestic and international visitors throughout next year.

“With today’s declaration of the Gombak-Hulu Langat Geopark as a national geopark, it will contribute to our mission of attracting more tourists to the state, especially for the Visit Selangor Year.

“In line with the First Selangor Plan to position the state as smart, liveable, and prosperous, the administration supports efforts toward sustainable and high-impact tourism projects,” he said at the declaration ceremony of the Gombak-Hulu Langat Geopark as Selangor’s first national geopark, here, today.

Earlier, Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj officiated the ceremony held at the Gua Damai Carnival.

The declaration officially recognises the 112,955-hectare area spanning the Gombak and Hulu Langat districts, home to geological heritage sites, as Malaysia’s seventh geopark.

Yesterday, while tabling the 2025 Selangor Budget, Amirudin announced an RM8 million allocation to implement promotion and tourism event programmes for the Visit Selangor Year.

The expenditure also covers upgrades to tourist attractions, which are expected to boost the domestic tourism economy, particularly in the northern region from Sabak Bernam to Kuala Selangor, and the southern region covering the Sepang and Kuala Langat districts.
