SHAH ALAM, Nov 15 — The proposed Kita Selangor Rail line will extend beyond state borders into Negeri Sembilan while incorporating new spur lines to key locations, including Westport and Klang, Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari announced today.
Speaking at the Selangor State Budget 2025 tabling, Amirudin revealed that a comprehensive feasibility study for the massive infrastructure project is underway and expected to conclude by January 2025.
“Through this ongoing study, the state government has identified the rail corridor, which will run from Sabak Bernam, passing through Sepang, and extending to Negeri Sembilan, covering a distance of 211 km.
“The construction of the Kita Selangor Rail line is expected to have a significant positive impact both physically and socioeconomically in Selangor,’’ he said.
The rail network's reach will be amplified through strategic spur lines connecting to major economic hubs including Westport, Klang, Putra Heights, and Unisel Bestari Jaya, significantly enhancing connectivity across the region.
Amirudin said the project has potential as a catalyst for both physical and socioeconomic transformation in Selangor, with plans to prioritise local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and workers during the construction phase.
“Priority for project development will be given to SMEs and local workers. To support the construction activities, other sectors such as hospitality, trade, and logistics will see growth, creating more job opportunities," he said, adding that the project could help reduce the use of private cars on major roadways in the state.
A total of RM3 billion is allocated for the 2025 Selangor Budget, an increase of RM470 million compared to this year’s budget.
Themed ‘A Dynamic Selangor: An Ideal Quest for a Civil Malaysia,’ the state budget has five main thrusts, namely Artificial Intelligence and Education as a Catalyst for State Economic Development, Uplifting an Aspiration of a Sustainable Environment and Quality Infrastructure, Promoting a Compassionate State, Championing an Efficient and Responsible System of Government, and Breathing New Life into the Creative Economy and Developing the Next Generation.
