Germany warns of terror threat targeting Israelis during Thailand Full Moon Party

BANGKOK, Nov 14 — The German embassy in Bangkok has issued a travel warning for tourists planning to visit Thailand’s Koh Phangan ahead of the upcoming Full Moon Party tomorrow, reported German news agency dpa.

The embassy’s warning comes amid reports of potential terrorist threats specifically targeting Israelis at the popular event.

Recent days had seen “indications of possible terrorist attacks” targeting the event, as well as other music festivals and gatherings with large foreign crowds across Thailand, the embassy’s website stated.

Tourists in Thailand are advised to avoid the Full Moon Party and similar events at this time, it said.

Surat Thani’s provincial security forces assured Koh Phangan is safe and dismissed the threat reports as unsubstantiated, the Bangkok Post reported. However, police said they have nonetheless ramped up security measures on the island.

The Full Moon Party, which has been held at Haad Rin Beach since the late 1980s, has become a global draw, with up to 30,000 attendees from around the world, with electronic music played under the full moon.
