SHAH ALAM, Nov 1 — All water pumps in Taman Sri Muda are being monitored to ensure that the infrastructure continues functioning properly, said Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
According to the Menteri Besar, all pumps, including the mobile units purchased to reduce flood risk, are fully operational.
“The pumps in Taman Sri Muda have been very effective since its upgrading works, along with the Sungai Klang deepening project, which aids water flow and helps prevent major floods like the one in 2021.
“In the recent State Executive Council meeting, we decided to continue monitoring all pumps in Taman Sri Muda,” he said during the Ziarah Rahmah Deepavali programme, here yesterday.
Amirudin said he had also instructed all state executive councillors to remain in the country, especially in December.
“This is because we are concerned that the flood incident may recur, and having all state executive councillors present will assist in taking prompt actions if a similar situation arises,” he said.
Taman Sri Muda was previously one of the hardest hit areas during the December 2021 floods, which killed 25 people, including six foreign nationals in Selangor.
In addition to providing RM1,000 assistance to 114,081 flood-affected households, the state worked tirelessly to clear flood debris from homes and business premises.

Meanwhile, Amirudin, accompanied by his wife, Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad, and state executive councillor for poverty eradication V. Papparaidu, had earlier visited M. Kiyashkumar, a child rescued during the 2021 floods in Taman Sri Muda.
Kiyashkumar is now three years old.
Reminiscing about the event, Amirudin said he had assisted Kiyashkumar, who was only 55 days old and stranded at Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Sri Muda with his parents.
“Today (yesterday), I returned to reconnect with the child we rescued during the floods to celebrate Deepavali.
“I am very happy to visit him again, and this gesture shows that the state government cares for the welfare of all residents, regardless of race. The memory of rescuing him during the floods is close to my heart,” he said when met last night.
Amirudin added that his administration plans to locate more individuals affected by the floods that hit Selangor in December 2021 as a gesture of compassion.

Meanwhile, the child’s mother, V. Shapritha, 32, said she was deeply moved and did not expect a visit from the Menteri Besar, who had once helped her during the 2021 floods.
She said that during the incident, the water level rose quickly. Her mother was holding Kiyashkumar, her newborn second child, while her husband held their two-year-old.
“It was a very panicky situation, and I was concerned because my baby was so young. Although it was difficult to let him go, he (Amirudin) was determined to assist in the rescue of our family.
“His visit tonight means so much to our family this Deepavali, and it is an experience we will never forget,” she said.
On December 19, 2021, Amirudin assisted flood victims, including newborns, at Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Sri Muda, Section 23 here.
He, along with security forces, also helped several elderly individuals trapped in the area from 5.30pm.
