SHAH ALAM, Oct 29 — The state government has vowed to ensure that all 12 of its local councils achieve a five-star rating under the Local Authority Star Rating System (SPB-PBT) implemented by the Housing and Local Government Ministry.
State executive councillor for local government Dato’ Ng Suee Lim said this involves every aspect of the rating system, including service delivery, user satisfaction and sustainable development goals.
“All local councils in Selangor are striving to achieve higher ratings, and there are sometimes fluctuations due to certain issues such as transparency, corruption, or other isolated issues.
“However, I am confident that the state’s local authorities can maintain good performance while enhancing their ratings toward achieving a five-star level,” he said when contacted.
Previously, on Saturday, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming had said that 12 local councils have had their ratings downgraded under the SPB-PBT due to the introduction of anti-corruption elements in the system this year.
He said the new assessment criteria were included to help improve the country’s position in the Corruption Perception Index, in line with the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) 2024-2028.
He said the 12 downgraded local authorities will be counselled to assist them in improving their ratings.
The minister added that he had instructed all councils to focus on several key aspects, particularly on enhancing integrity to serve as an example for public services.
