Hindu civil servants entitled to one unrecorded leave day for Deepavali

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 — The government yesterday announced that starting this year, Hindu civil servants may take one day of unrecorded leave (CTR) the day before or after Deepavali.

In a statement, the Public Service Department said CTR is subject to approval by authorities, and the circular on the matter has been extended to all state public servants, statutory authorities and local authorities.

“This year’s Deepavali falls on Thursday, October 31, 2024. In this regard, the one-day CTR for civil servants who are Hindu and serve in states where Deepavali is a public holiday is on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, or Friday, November 1, 2024.

“The government wishes everyone a Happy Deepavali and hopes this additional leave can give employees more space to welcome the celebration.

Deepavali, which is a federal public holiday, falls on October 31.
