SHAH ALAM, Oct 24 — The RM600,000 federal allocation under Budget 2025 to boost rural economies in villages and remote areas next year is expected to help residents generate higher incomes.

State executive councillor for rural development Datuk Rizam Ismail said the initiative will promote products by small and medium enterprises, while helping residents expand their businesses.

Concurrently, he said the move will ensure better organisation of rural areas, leading to a more attractive environment and an improved quality of life for village residents.

“Selangor welcomes this initiative and is ready to provide full cooperation, given that we have 373 villages. This will bring significant benefits to the residents, especially in terms of the economy.

“The administration has consistently worked to assist the villagers, and this is one of the government’s support measures. Therefore, I see this as an excellent plan for the local economy and environment,” he told Media Selangor.

On Friday, when tabling the Budget 2025, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a RM600 million allocation aimed at boosting the rural economy in villages, remote towns, and Orang Asli settlements.

Anwar said this allocation is part of the RM1 billion earmarked for the Program Sejahtera Komuniti Madani.

The government also allocated RM200 million to expand the Kampung Angkat Madani programme in 200 villages across the country, in addition to RM100 million for public universities to implement related programmes.
