GOMBAK, Oct 20 — All Selangor agencies must intensify their efforts to prevent flood risks during the high-tide phenomenon, said Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the phenomenon remained under control, although several areas could be improved to ensure the public's well-being.
“There were a few incidents recorded, but they were under control. We are thankful that some of the control measures have been successful, though flooding still occurred due to overflow.
“I am satisfied with the preparations, and perhaps we can step up our efforts so that when this phenomenon happens again, we can prevent flooding issues (altogether),” he said.
Amirudin was speaking to the press after officiating Air Selangor's fifth-anniversary celebration with the Sungai Tua state constituency's community, at Dewan Rakyat Batu Caves today.
He also expressed gratitude for the fact that the rainfall recorded during the high-tide phenomenon, particularly over the past three days, was not of high intensity.
“I am thankful that over the last three days, there was no significant rainfall recorded, which helped prevent more flooding incidents,” Amirudin said.
Previously, the state government urged all coastal residents in Selangor to remain alert and vigilant following the high-tide phenomenon, which began on Thursday (October 17) and ended today.
State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Izham Hashim said the sea levels were expected to rise up to 5.8m on Friday (October 18), marking the highest level for this year.
