SHAH ALAM, Oct 18 — The Selangor Red Giants’ (SRG) recent win at the e-Sports World Cup received special recognition when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim tabled Budget 2025 in the Dewan Rakyat today.
In his speech, he said the government will allocate RM20 million towards e-sports development in the coming year.
Additionally, tax breaks will be offered for winnings earned in e-sports tournaments sponsored by the National Sports Council.
In July, SRG ended Malaysia’s seven-year drought in international e-sports by defeating the Philippines’ Falcons AP Bren Sport 4-3 in the Mid-Season Cup Mobile Legends Bang Bang (MLBB) 2024, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Similarly, Selangor’s badminton duo Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah were also given a special mention alongside other national athletes, with Anwar praising their dedication to proudly representing Malaysia and as a source of inspiration.
