SHAH ALAM, Oct 18 — RM12 billion has been allocated to maintain subsidies to benefit 85 per cent of Malaysians, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“The government is committed to maintaining subsidies for the majority of the people, as done with targeted electricity subsidies, ensuring 85 per cent of the population is unaffected.

“To avoid any misunderstanding, I would like to reiterate the (government) will continue to support 85 per cent of the people.

“This means the government will bear an estimated RM12 billion in subsidies to meet the needs of 85 per cent of the people,” he said while tabling Budget 2025 at Parliament today.

“The government plans to implement targeted RON95 subsidies by mid-2025, with the savings to be used to ensure welfare for a larger number of people,” he said.

Previously, the Economy Ministry said RON95 targeted subsidies will utilise data from the Central Database Hub, or Padu, with eligibility to be determined based on net household disposable income.
