AMPANG JAYA, Oct 16 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari today said a recent landslide here was caused by a clog of rocks and earth in the drainage system.

Speaking to reporters after surveying the disaster site today and presenting donations to victims, he said the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council has notified the landowner to perform maintenance on drains in the area to prevent future landslides.

“This land is privately owned and no development was done. The residents of seven at-risk homes have been asked to evacuate for their safety.

“This area will be closed temporarily until the Minerals and Geosciences Department’s investigation is completed and a report is issued that the land is secure and safe,” he said.

The state government today presented cash handouts to the seven families affected by the landslide on Jalan E6, Taman Melawati here.

Amirudin said every family received RM500 from the Gombak Land and District Office.

“The Gombak parliamentary and Hulu Kelang state constituency coordination centre will oversee additional aid such as basic needs.

“Twenty-three victims from seven families were placed at the Jalan E5 Community Hall temporary relief centre while some chose to stay with other families,” he said.
