Counter-setting syndicates on Parliament agenda today

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 — Syndicates involved in bringing in foreigners via “counter setting”, allegedly orchestrated by enforcement personnel at the country’s entry points, is on the Dewan Rakyat agenda today.

According to the Order Papers on the Parliament website, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (PN-Kota Bharu) will ask the Home Minister about the government’s measures against these syndicates during the oral question-and-answer session.

Another query will come from Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh (PH-Ledang) about an update on efforts to enhance students’ digital skills, particularly with equipment shortages at rural schools.

Hassan Saad (PN-Baling) is expected to question the Education Minister about reasons behind student absenteeism from the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia exam, and measures to discourage dropouts.

After the question-and-answer session, the Dewan Rakyat will continue its debate on the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2024, which aims to lower the age limit to register for citizenship from 21 to 18.

The Third Meeting of the Third Session of the 15th Parliament will conclude December 12.
