SHAH ALAM, Oct 11 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) today awarded RM45,800 in incentives to 21st Malaysian Games (Sukma) medallists.
Shah Alam Mayor Dato’ Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim said RM1,000 was awarded to each gold medallist, RM500 to silver medallists and RM300 to bronze medallists.
Fauzi said the women’s and men’s court volleyball teams received the highest rewards, at RM27,500, followed by the gymnastics team (RM15,300) and taekwondo squad (RM3,000).
“It is hope these incentives will motivate athletes to keep moving forward towards the Selangor Sukma in 2026,” he said here today.
He said MBSA “adopted” the events of men’s and women’s court volleyball, men’s and women’s beach volleyball, gymnastics, and taekwondo.
Fauzi added that his council will prepare two world-class venues for the state-held Sukma in 2026.
“The MBSA Convention Centre can hold indoor events, while the Seksyen 4 Volleyball Hall has world-class facilities,” he said.

Meanwhile, volleyball athlete Arvin Arul, 21, said he was happy to receive the MBSA incentive, which he will be using for university and training.
“Thank you to the MBSA for this second incentive, and now the team can focus on the Higher Learning Institutions Sports championships next year (Sukipt),” he said.
Another volleyball player, Jazz Wong, 20, said the incentive shows the MBSA appreciates the efforts of athletes in the Sarawak edition of Sukma,
“The incentive I received will be used for training and exploring opportunities in other sports, seeing as I can no longer compete in the Sukma,” she said.
In the sporting event that was held from August 17 to 24, Selangor won 56 gold, 64 silver and 61 bronze medals, finishing in third spot overall.
Selangor is set to host the biennial event in 2026.
