Endurance athlete runs 48 hours to enter Malaysia Book of Records

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 — Ultra-endurance runner Grace Lim Swee Ching is set to enter the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for the longest non-stop run on a treadmill by a woman.

The current world record for treadmill running is 340.36km for women (Emma Timmis of New Zealand), and 405.22km for men (Tony Mangan from Ireland).

The 42-year-old runner will attempt a 48-hour run from today until Friday, aiming to surpass the previous record of 25 hours set by Melinder Kaur in July 2022, who completed 123.85km.

Lim, who recently set a new national record by covering 270.3km in 48 hours during the Taman Jaya Ultra 2024, is targeting a minimum of 150km to enter the MBOR.

“I am prepared both physically and mentally to push beyond my limits,” she said today.

Meanwhile, Lim said her attempt coincides with World Mental Health Day and the International Day of the Girl, and aims to raise awareness on mental health and promote girls’ empowerment and education.

She hopes that with the support of her coach, Jeffery Ross, she can raise RM30,000 for charity.
