SHAH ALAM, Oct 9 — The pipe replacement programme across Selangor is proceeding as scheduled and is nearing the annual target of 300km, said state executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Izham Hashim.

He said his committee is currently awaiting the latest report from Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd, the agency responsible for carrying out the pipe replacement works.

“The state government has decided to double the pipe replacement target from 150km to 300km, with the costs covered by Air Selangor.

“In a recent meeting with Air Selangor, it was shown that the pipe replacement is on track and close to hitting the 300km annual target. We are now awaiting the final report,” Izham said.

The state government previously announced that the annual pipe replacement programme would be doubled to 300km starting this year, with a long-term goal of increasing the target to 400km per year by 2034.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said that so far, over  600km of old pipes have been successfully replaced in phases since 2016 to ensure residents’ comfort.

The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj had also expressed satisfaction with the state government's efforts and initiatives to mitigate the impact of rising water tariffs.

His Royal Highness commended these efforts, particularly the state’s initiative to absorb and bear the costs of increased tariff through Skim Air Darul Ehsan, including for schools, mosques, suraus, and places of worship.
