GOMBAK, Oct 3 — Any action against GISB Holdings (GISBH) will be taken based on edicts delivered by the state fatwa council, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said his administration will refer to guidelines issued by the Selangor State Fatwa Committee, which the Sultan of Selangor will consent to.
“This is the structure (procedure) for the fatwa council and Selangor Islamic Religious Council, which will be presented to His Royal Highness ( Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj) as (state Islamic) head to decree and consent to.
“After an audience with His Royal Highness, the edict will be announced to the people and state. We will act based on the edict and decisions outlined by the fatwa committee,” he said.
Amirudin was met after he launched Selangor 1000 Digital Series 5, organised by the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation here today.
Yesterday, state executive councillor for Islam and innovation Dr Fahmi Ngah said the decision of the Selangor State Fatwa Committee on GISBH’s activities will be presented to the Sultan today.
Fahmi said the ruler will consent to the results of the council’s study before the document is gazetted.
Previously, Selangor Mufti Assoc Prof Dato’ Anhar Opir said the fatwa committee will present its findings on the group’s activities on September 30.
Other than the meeting, he said his office has studied and evaluated all evidence received from police, the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais), and testimonies from those involved.
In a statement yesterday, Jais said it detected several practices and beliefs of GISBH members that need investigation, as they go against enforced edicts.
Jais director Dato’ Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said GISBH members believe that leadership gives one blessing that allows them into heaven.
Jais’ probe also found that marriages and divorces within the group were arranged by GISBH leaders, and could not be proven with legitimate documentation. The probe also revealed the group practised polygamy without permission from the Syariah Court.
