SHAH ALAM, Sept 30 — Educators, particularly those under the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais), are urged to emphasise the values of moderation (wasatiyyah) in delivering knowledge to students.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said instilling the values of moderation helps children avoid being easily influenced by extremist elements.
"Today’s seminar on wasatiyyah and curbing extremism is meant to assist educators in emphasising the importance of moderation in imparting knowledge," he said today.
Amirudin said this after officiating a seminar on curbing extremism, held in collaboration between Asatizah Selangor (Anas) and Jais’ Islamic Education Division, at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque, here.
"This seminar equips educators with the tools to guide children in resisting the influence of extremist or excessive elements. It's important to recognise that extremism can manifest not only in inter-ethnic relations but also within religious practices."
"This reminder is important to ensure children are able to reject and make informed decisions.
“In fact, I hope that through this discourse, educators can exchange views, ultimately fostering a generation with a resilient future," he said today.
